Poppy Seed Design

One of things I love the most about our business is getting to meet so many wonderful, interesting people. One of the reasons I started this blog was to be able to share all the talented folks I get to meet . One such gal is Ms. Ayme King.

Nicole Marie Portraits

I have had the opportunity to photograph her sweet family. And admire her talent. She is the owner and creative director of Poppy Seed Design.

Check her site out HERE.

I am always interested to know how creative folks live and think:

Tell me about yourself.

I’m a Southern girl who loves sweet tea, the beach, a good book, checking things off my list, and hiking.

Tell me about your business.

Poppy Seed Design is an award-winning advertising agency in Montgomery, Alabama with more than 15 years of experience. We believe in providing excellence to our clients in everything we do. Our specialties include design, marketing, branding and consulting.

Describe your personal style.

It’s always evolving, but I would describe it as clean, fresh and strong – with a touch of elegant.

What do you enjoy most about your career?

The variety it brings every day. From creating a brand image to designing a child’s birthday invitation, I love it all!

How did you choose your career path?

I was always interested in art and took lessons from age 9 through high school. When college time came I knew I wanted to major in something related to that field. After talking to several friends who had chosen the graphic design path, I knew it was right for me. My  graphic design and marketing studies at Auburn laid the groundwork for a successful career in advertising.

How do you manage work/ life balance with small children at home?

It’s stressful at times, but you just have to go with the flow, especially with little ones. I try to remind myself that the work will always be there, the kids will not. And there are times when I have to drag myself away from the computer for  a play date in the park or a picnic. But it’s always worth it!!

What blogs, magazines, websites inspire you?

I love Fast Company, Wired, and Inc. Some of my favorite web sites are The Pioneer Woman, Design Mom, Seth Godin, Garden & Gun.

What is one important thing you everyday?

Pray

What is your favorite quote?

“To the world you may be one person but to one person you may be the world”

Whats your best piece of advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Sounds cliché, but it’s so true – do what you love and the rest will fall in line.

Finish these sentences:
I love…

God, my kids, my family and life in general.

I couldn’t live with out…

Coffee! And chocolate might be a little tough to do without as well.

I feel naked without my…

Carmex

My mamma/daddy always told me…

Be yourself.

At Starbucks I order…

Non-fat White Chocolate Mocha

Memory Flip Books

I can just see a bowl full of these on a coffee table. What a fun idea!

Scott’s

I am very excited to be heading to Atlanta in the morning with a couple of good friends.  After a year of trying to make it there, Im going to Scott’s Antique Market. If you haven’t been before, you should really try to go. It is filled with treasures! Like no place Ive been. And…it is held the second weekend of every month. This is good, because once you’ve been you will need to go back. And no trip to ATL would be complete without a trip to IKEA. What are your shopping suggestions in Atlanta? And, Where to eat?

Inspired

Deb Schwedhelm is another photographer I go to for inspiration. I love the natural feel of her work. I love the grain in her black and whites. I think her work can stand as Art and Portraiture. Check her out. Tell me what you think. I would love for you guys to leave me a few comments. I want to hear from you.

I want this one with my Sam!

Pottery Barn – Stylehouse

Do you know about all the wonderful Stylehouse videos on the Pottery Barn website? Just click HERE. My favorites are the “Where I Live” home tours.

The following video just reaffirms my love for design and photography in the home.

Beautiful, Black & White Fine Art prints of your family and children will be forever works of art. They will never go out of style, and what better to decorate with than memories and the people you love.

One of my favorite home tours:

Daddy’s Quote

As I’ve said before, my love of words came from my daddy. When he passed away 5 years ago we found notes and quotes everywhere, written in his books, tucked in boxes. This is one of my favorites.

Via Blinks of life If you like words, like me,  you will love this site.

Feeling like this a lot these days

I LIKE TACOS!

A Simple Photography Workshop.

I don’t know about you guys, but when it comes to technical stuff, I need SIMPLE. Simple words & simple directions. Josh and I have always said that would be our approach if we ever taught photography. There’s a ton of photography info out there. So much that its a bit, no alot overwhelming. But guess what…you don’t need to know it all, only a few things make all the difference. This workshop is not for the professional. Its a beginner class, that will help you take better photos. Are you a mom or a blogger and want to understand your camera, light and SIMPLE editing. This is the class for you. Josh and I  will cover camera and lens basics, lighting and finding the right light, creativity and composition. This will be a safe place to ask the “dumb” questions, and get answers. Thats how I learned. And if you know anything about my partner Josh, you know we are going to laugh and have tons of fun. Email me at kim@kimboxphotography.com to sign up. Class size is limited.

Thanks guys for the amazing response! This class is full. We will be announcing new dates soon!
